Personality Tests and Getting to Know Yourself

Today I got to do one of my favorite things in the world — take a personality test.

Does anyone else feel this way about personality tests and learning more about yourself (and how your brain works?)

I took this one over at 16 Personalities, which is based on the Meyers-Briggs test that's been around since 1944. Have you ever taken the Meyers-Briggs test?

I’m pretty sure that I took it back in college, but I genuinely didn't remember what my results were. And it wasn't that I hadn't thought to take it again, as most of my friends have taken it and they all know their types. But today I was applying for a job and as part of the application process I had to submit my personality type based on this quiz.

This isn't the first job that I've had this happen, where a potential employer asked me to take one or more personality tests as part of the applicant vetting process. At my current employer, I had to take the Strengths-Finder test as well as the 5 Love Languages, both of which were new to me.

And every single time, I truly enjoyed getting to dig into another layer of how my brain works!

I discovered that I am an ENFJ on the Myers Briggs scale, and other famous ENFJs include people like Barack Obama and Oprah! OPRAH people!

Okay so for anyone new to my life, Oprah is my number one aspirational goal. To meet her, to be more like her, to help as many people as she has, to touch as many lives as her work has.

The day I get to meet Oprah, I may, in fact, forget how to speak.

Haha, just kidding. If you know anything about me you know I love to talk as much as I love to write, and I’ve got a list of questions for her that’s been brewing for years…

I digress.

I’m an EFNJ, and to be included in the same personality type with Ms. O gave me goosebumps and reaffirmed that even though most people don’t understand my dreams, and even though SO many people have told me to play small, I’m on the right track.

After all, my personality type literally supports it!

It’s so cool to understand what it means to be a Protagonist (ENFJ) and that’s why I’m such a strong believer in people and their ability to rise up from their circumstances and take charge of their lives.

It’s why I believe in you.

I don’t even know you, but I believe in you.

I believe in your ability to take responsibility for your life — as it exists and as you want it to.

I believe in your ability to stand up for yourself, your thoughts, your beliefs, and your rights.

I believe in your beautiful, curious, aspiring mind and your big, bold dreams.

And one of the core reasons I’m able to believe so deeply in YOU is because I believe deeply in ME.

I’ve done a fair amount of self-work over the years, and I honestly believe that work is never-ending. I’ll be working on understanding the complexities of my habits, brain, actions and beliefs for the rest of my life. And one of the best ways that I’ve done that is by taking personality tests!

As soon as I took the test on my lunch break, I knew this was what I wanted to share with you on the blog today.

You might be in a difficult situation right now with everything going on in the world. You might be sick, or have a loved one who is sick, or have lost your job and income due to this pandemic.

But you haven’t lost the ability to learn and grow. If you’re reading this blog, you have the ability to Google anything and to take one small step forward in creating your dream life.

So tell me, do you like personality tests? What’s your Meyers-Briggs type? Would you like a post where I share some more of my favorites?
